About the CIEH

The voice of environmental health since 1883

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) serves as the membership and awarding body for the environmental health sector.

CIEH members operate globally, enhancing lives and exemplifying excellence across all areas of environmental health, including food safety, public health, housing, environmental protection, and health and safety.

Established in 1883, CIEH has played a pivotal role in shaping many of the environmental standards that have significantly improved public health and wellbeing worldwide.

Today, the organisation remains dedicated to its mission - setting and elevating standards, advocating for public health improvements, supporting the professional development of its members, and influencing policy at all levels.

How CIEH helps

  • The Public - CIEH believes that everyone deserves to live in a healthy, safe, and happy environment. Through education, advocacy, and support, the organisation promotes cleaner, safer, and healthier environments for the benefit of all.

  • Professionals - CIEH offers training, accreditation, and a professional community for environmental health practitioners across the public, private, and third sectors. Members gain access to exceptional professional development opportunities, networking, and representation.
